📖 About the university

Chongqing Vocational University of Urban Management traces its history to the Chongqing Civil Affairs School, founded in 1984 by China's Ministry of Civil Affairs, which was upgraded in March 2001 to the Chongqing Social Work Vocational College and renamed the Chongqing Vocational College of Urban Management in March 2006. In May 2026 the Ministry of Education approved its transformation into a bachelor's-level institution under its current name, and the new university was formally unveiled at a ceremony on its Rongchang campus on 27 June 2026. The university is run by the Chongqing municipal government and has a planned full-time enrolment scale of around 15,000 students, making it one of the larger newly promoted vocational universities in southwest China. Its first cohort of bachelor's students will study five inaugural programmes: smart health and elder-care management, rehabilitation engineering technology, robotics technology, civil affairs management, and smart community management, a mix that reflects both its civil-affairs heritage and China's fast-growing demand for elder-care and community-management professionals. The Rongchang campus, on the western edge of the Chongqing municipal region, gives the university room to expand its applied-technology and social-service training facilities. As a civil-affairs-rooted institution, it retains a distinctive focus on social welfare, elder care and community governance that differentiates it from more purely engineering-oriented vocational universities in the same 2026 approval cohort. It is not part of the Project 985/211 or Double First-Class categories, and it currently serves a primarily domestic student body without an established international-admissions programme.
