📖 About the university

Guangdong Technology College is a private undergraduate institution in Zhaoqing, the historic Pearl River Delta city on the Xijiang River, and it reports to the Guangdong provincial department of education. It was founded in July 1995 and grew as Zhaoqing Science and Technology Vocational College until 16 May 2014, when the Ministry of Education issued the formal letter approving its upgrade from junior-college to undergraduate level and its renaming as Guangdong Technology College. The college now works from two campuses in Zhaoqing: the Gaoyao campus on Qifu Avenue in Nan'an subdistrict of Gaoyao district, and the Dinghu campus on Jinding Road in Kengkou subdistrict of Dinghu district, which was completed and brought into use in September 2017 on about 478 mu. Together the two campuses cover roughly 1.02 million square metres with total building floor area of about 698,100 square metres, and enrolment has grown to more than thirty thousand full-time students, which makes it one of the larger private colleges in Guangdong. Thirteen teaching units — among them the schools of economics and management, information technology, foreign languages, electrical and electronic engineering, accounting, construction, intelligent manufacturing, art and design, physical education, international business, innovation and entrepreneurship, continuing education and Marxism — deliver 37 undergraduate programmes across the six discipline categories of engineering, economics, management, literature, art and education. The college describes itself as engineering-led with the other fields developing in coordination, and engineering accounts for more than 54 per cent of its programmes, concentrated in mechanical design and manufacturing, electrical engineering and automation, computer science, civil engineering and intelligent manufacturing, which reflects its position in the manufacturing belt of western Guangdong. Its motto is to cultivate virtue, seek truth, act steadily and innovate; teaching is in Chinese and the intake is domestic, but Zhaoqing's location roughly an hour from Guangzhou by high-speed rail places students within easy reach of the Pearl River Delta job market.
