Heilongjiang University of Chinese Medicine in Harbin is one of the leading universities for traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) in northern China, founded in 1954. It has national key disciplines in Chinese pharmacy (materia medica) and TCM, and is especially strong in the study, cultivation and processing of northeastern medicinal herbs such as ginseng. The university runs large affiliated TCM hospitals and is a major training center for practitioners of Chinese medicine, acupuncture and integrated medicine. It attracts substantial numbers of international students, as TCM is one of China's most popular fields of study for foreigners.
