📖 About the university

Zibo Polytechnic University is a public university in Zibo, Shandong province, formed through the merger of a long line of specialist schools whose earliest root, the Shandong Zibo Health School, was founded in 1956, followed over subsequent decades by the Zibo Commercial School (1964), the Shandong Light Industry Arts School (1973), the Zibo Industrial and Trade Workers' Technical School (1978), the Zibo Chemical School (1979) and others; these institutions were progressively consolidated into Zibo Vocational College in 2002 and 2009, and the college was upgraded to a full vocational-bachelor's university, Zibo Polytechnic University, in July 2025, becoming Shandong province's first public bachelor's-level vocational university. The university was designated a national demonstrative higher vocational college in 2007 and selected for China's high-level "Double High Plan" vocational schools programme in 2019, and in the 2025 Shanghai Ranking of Chinese vocational colleges it placed 10th nationally among vocational-bachelor's universities. It is not part of the Project 985, Project 211 or Double First-Class programmes, being instead one of Shandong's leading applied, vocational-bachelor's institutions, and its inherited strengths in health and nursing, commerce, chemical engineering, mechanical and electrical engineering, and art and design directly reflect the specialist schools from which it was built. The university enrolls around 22,000 students and employs more than 1,400 faculty members, including over 100 professors and more than 130 staff holding doctoral degrees.

Its campus, spanning more than 2,400 mu across four adjoining North, South, East and West sub-campuses linked by pedestrian bridges, sits at the junction of Zhoucun and Zhangdian districts in Zibo's newly developed university town. The university operates four state-level vocational-education training bases, three national production-oriented training bases, and a national virtual-simulation training centre, underlining its emphasis on hands-on, applied instruction. At present the university serves primarily domestic students pursuing technical and professional careers and does not advertise a dedicated Chinese-language programme for international applicants. Its long institutional lineage stretching back nearly seventy years, its recent elevation to bachelor's-degree status, and its top-ten national ranking among vocational-bachelor's universities make it one of the more established and well-regarded members of China's fast-growing vocational higher-education sector.
