📖 About the university

Qingdao Institute of Technology is a private undergraduate institution on Fuzhou South Road in Jiaozhou, the county-level city on the western shore of Jiaozhou Bay within greater Qingdao. It was created in 2005 as the Qingdao College of Ocean University of China, an independent college established under that national key university by the Detai science-and-education investment company, and in 2011 the Ministry of Education approved its conversion into a free-standing private school under the present name — reviving a university name that had existed in Qingdao in the early 1950s. On a campus of 922 mu the institute teaches about 11,000 students through eight units: schools of mechanical and electrical engineering, information engineering, construction engineering, food engineering, foreign languages, business, management and foundation education. The engineering emphasis, and notably the food-engineering school — an inheritance from the ocean-university connection in a city with a large food-processing industry — give the school its profile, with Jiaozhou's manufacturing zone and the Qingdao airport economic demonstration area on its doorstep supplying internships and jobs. The motto urges students to hold the world in mind and benefit humanity. Teaching is in Chinese and enrolment is domestic.

🌆 About Qingdao

Qingdao is a major seaport and coastal city in Shandong province, known worldwide for its beer, beaches, and distinctive German colonial architecture. With a metropolitan population of around ten million, it wraps around the Yellow Sea coast with red-roofed old quarters and modern skylines. Its maritime climate keeps summers mild and humid and winters cold but moderate, without the harsh extremes of the interior. Landmarks include the iconic Zhanqiao Pier, the leafy old villas of Badaguan, the Tsingtao Beer Museum, and Mount Lao on the outskirts. As a coastal city it is prized for fresh seafood and its world-famous Tsingtao beer. A modern metro network, Jiaodong International Airport, and high-speed rail connect it to Jinan, Beijing, and Shanghai. For an international student, Qingdao offers sea air, an attractive setting, respected universities, and a relaxed yet cosmopolitan seaside lifestyle.
