Linyi University is a large comprehensive public university in the revolutionary city of Linyi in southern Shandong, with a heritage tracing back to a wartime teachers' school founded in 1941 in the Yimeng mountain base area. It is one of the biggest universities in Shandong by campus size and enrolment, strong in teacher education, geology and paleontology — the region is famous for dinosaur fossils and its own on-campus geology museum. The university carries forward the 'Yimeng spirit' of the old revolutionary base and serves the education and industry of southern Shandong. It spans education, science, engineering, agriculture, economics and the arts. International students are welcomed for Chinese-language study and degrees.
