📖 About the university

Henan Polytechnic Vocational University is a full-time public vocational-bachelor's university located in the historic city of Nanyang in southwestern Henan. Its predecessor was the 531 Machinery Industry School, founded in 1973 in Jiyuan under the former Fifth Ministry of Machine Building with an ordnance and military-industrial mission, renamed the Zhongyuan Machinery Industry School and relocated to Nanyang in 1979, then upgraded in 2001 to a higher-vocational institute. In February 2026 the Ministry of Education approved the establishment of Henan Polytechnic Vocational University on that basis, making it the province's second public vocational university. Its first vocational-bachelor's majors include mechanical design manufacturing and automation, robotics technology, electronic information engineering technology, big-data engineering technology, unmanned-aircraft systems application technology, and modern logistics management. The university operates the Kongming, Guangwu and Fangcheng campuses and is organised into schools including Mechanical Engineering, Automation Engineering, Architectural Engineering and Electronic Information Engineering. A national high-level (double-high) college, it retains particular strengths in mechanical and automation engineering rooted in its military-industrial origins. As an applied vocational university it enrols primarily domestic students and does not currently advertise a dedicated Chinese-language pathway for international applicants.
