📖 About the university

Qilu Medical University is a full-time undergraduate medical university located at No. 1678 Renmin West Road in Zibo, Shandong Province. It was founded in October 1995, when the Wanjie Group and the Shandong provincial government established the private Shandong Wanjie Medical Academy, initially offering nursing, pharmacy and marketing; it was authorised to award junior-college degrees in 1999, upgraded to an undergraduate institution in 2008, and renamed Qilu Medical University in 2015. Today the university is sponsored by the Shandong Commercial Group, a large state-owned enterprise, giving it an unusual status as a state-owned, publicly backed institution operating within the non-governmental education sector. It is organised into twelve secondary colleges, including clinical medicine, pharmacy, nursing and stomatology, and offers thirty-two undergraduate programmes together with vocational courses to a body of more than twenty thousand students. As a specialised medical university it concentrates on the health sciences, with clinical medicine, pharmacy, nursing and medical imaging technology among its core strengths, and it operates affiliated hospitals and clinical teaching bases across the region.

Zibo is a prefecture-level city in central Shandong Province, historically part of the ancient state of Qi and one of the cradles of Qi culture. Home to around four and a half million people, it grew as an industrial city known for ceramics, glass, petrochemicals and, more recently, for a nationwide craze for its street-side barbecue.
