📖 About the university

The China Academy of Art (CAA) in Hangzhou, founded in 1928 as the National Academy of Art, is one of the oldest and most influential art schools in China and a rival to CAFA as the country's top art university. Set beside the West Lake, it is renowned for Chinese painting and calligraphy, oil painting, design, sculpture and cutting-edge new-media and intermedia art. It is a national 'Double First-Class' university for art, and its graduates shape much of China's contemporary art and design scene. Its lakeside Nanshan campus and the modern Xiangshan campus designed by Pritzker laureate Wang Shu are landmarks of art education in themselves. International students come to CAA for classical Chinese art as well as experimental contemporary practice.
