Wenshan University is a public undergraduate university in Wenshan, southeastern Yunnan, in the Zhuang and Miao Autonomous Prefecture bordering Vietnam. Its roots go back to a teacher-training school founded in 1958, and it was upgraded to an undergraduate university by the Ministry of Education in 2009. The first university jointly established by the provincial and prefectural governments, it is a model applied-talent institution in Yunnan. It has distinctive programs tied to local ethnic culture and the region's famous sanqi (notoginseng) medicinal herb industry.
