📖 About the university
Hunan University (HNU) is a public research university in Changsha, the capital of Hunan province, whose lineage is often traced to the ancient Yuelu Academy, a centre of Chinese learning founded nearly a thousand years ago, with the modern university dating to 1926. It is included in Project 985, Project 211, and the Double First-Class initiative. HNU is especially known for civil engineering, mechanical and vehicle engineering, chemistry, electrical engineering, and business, and it combines a strong engineering base with an unusually deep cultural heritage. This continuity from a historic academy to a modern research university is a defining feature.
Set at the foot of Yuelu Mountain beside the Xiang River in Changsha, the university enjoys a scenic and historic campus with modern research facilities. HNU maintains international collaborations and hosts a considerable international student community. International applicants can study the Chinese language and prepare for the HSK, and the university offers a range of degree programs, including English-taught options at the graduate level in engineering. It is well suited to academically strong students interested in civil, mechanical, or vehicle engineering, chemistry, business, or those drawn to a university with a distinctive historical heritage.

🌆 About Changsha
Changsha is the capital of Hunan province and a lively hub of media, entertainment, and nightlife in central-southern China. With a metropolitan population of around ten million, the city sits on the banks of the Xiang River and is famed for its energetic, youthful atmosphere. The climate is humid subtropical, meaning long hot and humid summers and cool, damp winters. Signature attractions include Orange Isle in the middle of the river, historic Yuelu Mountain with its ancient academy, and the acclaimed Hunan Provincial Museum. Hunan cuisine is boldly spicy, with famous dishes like stinky tofu, spicy crayfish, and Chairman Mao's red-braised pork. A growing metro system, Huanghua International Airport, and high-speed rail put the city within easy reach of Guangzhou, Wuhan, and beyond. For an international student, Changsha combines affordable living, strong universities, and one of the most vibrant food-and-entertainment scenes in the country.
