📖 About the university

Fuzhou Medical College, located in Fuzhou, Jiangxi province (not to be confused with the coastal city of the same English spelling in neighbouring Fujian), traces its history to the Jiangxi Fuzhou Health School, founded in 1958, which was reorganised in 1986 into a school of traditional Chinese medicine and renamed the Jiangxi Traditional Chinese Medicine School in 1998, before being upgraded in May 2004 to the higher-vocational Jiangxi College of Traditional Chinese Medicine. In June 2025 the Ministry of Education approved the establishment of a bachelor's-level Fuzhou Medical College on the basis of that college, and the new institution was formally unveiled in September 2025, with its predecessor's registration revoked. Its first batch of bachelor's programmes covers Chinese medicine, acupuncture and moxibustion, pharmacy and nursing, while the college as a whole offers 22 programmes spanning traditional Chinese medicine, orthopaedic traditional medicine, rehabilitation technology, medical laboratory technology, medical imaging technology, midwifery, herbal pharmacy and health-information management. The college occupies two campuses with a combined land area of more than 1,000 mu (roughly 67 hectares), reflecting its rapid recent expansion from a specialist college into a full undergraduate institution. Its curriculum retains a strong traditional Chinese medicine and pharmacy orientation inherited from its decades as a TCM-focused specialist school, distinguishing it from the many general nursing- or clinical-medicine-focused new medical colleges established around the same time. As a newly founded public undergraduate institution, it is not part of the Project 985/211 or Double First-Class tiers, but it fills a specific gap in Jiangxi's health-education system for traditional Chinese medicine practitioners. The college currently serves primarily domestic students, and dedicated international-admissions arrangements have not yet been publicised.
