📖 About the university

Mudanjiang Medical University is a public medical university in the city of Mudanjiang in south-eastern Heilongjiang province, in the far north-east of China. Its roots reach back to the Mudanjiang District Hospital founded in 1946 and the Heilongjiang Provincial Health Cadre Training School of 1956, with the institution formally established in 1958; the calligraphy of its original name plate was written by the historian and poet Guo Moruo. For most of its history it operated as Mudanjiang Medical College, and in June 2024 the Ministry of Education formally approved its elevation to full university status under the name Mudanjiang Medical University. The campus covers more than 700,000 square metres with over 350,000 square metres of building space, and the university is authorised for a full-time enrolment of about 12,000 students across 23 undergraduate programmes. Teaching is organised into schools of basic medical sciences, clinical medicine, pharmacy, medical imaging, medical laboratory science, nursing, public health and stomatology, with clinical medicine and pharmacy its long-established strengths. It is one of the main medical training institutions for eastern Heilongjiang, supplying doctors, pharmacists and nurses to a region that borders Russia, and it operates affiliated teaching hospitals in the city.
