Xichang University is a public undergraduate institution in Xichang, the capital of the Liangshan Yi Autonomous Prefecture in southern Sichuan. Its history traces to the National Xikang Polytechnic College founded in 1939, and it was formally established in its current form in 2003. The university has particular strengths in agriculture, animal husbandry, and the study of Yi ethnic culture. It serves the mountainous, multi-ethnic Liangshan region and supports the local agricultural economy.
