📖 About the university

Chuxiong Normal University is a public undergraduate university located in Chuxiong City, the capital of the Chuxiong Yi Autonomous Prefecture in central Yunnan Province, about 100 kilometers from the provincial capital Kunming. Its origins trace back to the Provincial Zhennan Normal School founded in 1936, and the present university was established in May 2001 with approval from the Ministry of Education through the merger of the former Chuxiong Teachers College and the Chuxiong Teachers College for Nationalities. As a full-time undergraduate institution focused on teacher training, it offers programs across literature, education, mathematics, foreign languages, information science and other fields. In 2009 it became the first school in Yunnan Province to be named a National Civilized Unit by the central authorities. Situated in a Yi ethnic autonomous region, the university is distinctive for its teacher education and its research on Yi ethnic culture and heritage. Chuxiong Normal University admits international students and offers Chinese-language study for learners in China.
