📖 About the university

Tsinghua University is a public research university in Beijing, founded in 1911 on the site of the former Qing dynasty imperial gardens, from which it takes its name and much of its distinctive garden campus in the north-west of the capital. It is a member of the elite C9 League and is designated under both Project 985 and Project 211 as well as the national Double First-Class initiative, which together mark it as one of China's most prestigious institutions. Historically it grew from a preparatory school for students bound for study in the United States into a comprehensive research university, and its graduates are prominent across Chinese industry, science, government, and academia. The university is especially renowned for engineering and computer science, and it also has highly regarded schools of architecture, economics and management, and medicine.

Beyond the classroom, Tsinghua is known for its strong culture of research, entrepreneurship, and student life, with extensive laboratories, sports traditions, and a wooded campus centred on landmarks such as the old gardens and lotus ponds. It maintains a wide network of international partnerships and hosts a large community of international students and visiting scholars. International applicants are welcomed and can pursue Chinese-language study, including HSK preparation, alongside a growing selection of degree programs, some of which are taught in English at the graduate level. The university suits ambitious, academically strong students, particularly those aiming for advanced study or careers in engineering, technology, management, or the sciences.

🌆 About Beijing

Beijing is China's capital and the political, cultural, and educational heart of the country, home to its leading government institutions and many of its top universities. With a metropolitan population of around 21 million spread across sixteen districts, it is a vast city that blends imperial history with cutting-edge modernity. The climate is temperate and continental, bringing hot, humid summers and cold, dry, and often windy winters. Its landmarks are world-famous, including the Forbidden City, Tiananmen Square, the Temple of Heaven, and the Great Wall winding through the surrounding mountains. Local food ranges from crispy Peking roast duck to zhajiangmian noodles and street-side jianbing pancakes. Getting around is easy thanks to one of the world's largest metro systems, major international airports, and high-speed rail links to the entire country. For an international student, Beijing offers an unmatched concentration of universities, libraries, museums, and cultural life, though the pace is fast and living costs are among the highest in China.
