Longyan University is the only full-time public undergraduate university in western Fujian, located in the revolutionary base city of Longyan. Its history dates to Longyan Normal College founded in 1958, and it took its current name and status in 2004 with the approval of the Ministry of Education. The university has distinctive strengths in resource and mining engineering, mechatronics, and teacher training. It serves the mountainous Hakka region and supports the local mineral and industrial economy.
