📖 About the university

Shandong Institute of Petroleum and Chemical Technology is a full-time public undergraduate university established by the government of Shandong Province and located in Dongying, the oil city on the Yellow River delta that is home to the Shengli Oilfield. Its predecessor was founded in March 2003, when China University of Petroleum (East China) set up the Shengli College as an independent college on the basis of the earlier Shengli Oilfield Teachers College; the college was renamed China University of Petroleum Shengli College in 2005, and in January 2021 the Ministry of Education approved its conversion into an independent, provincially run public undergraduate university under its present name. Reflecting its petroleum heritage, the university concentrates on oil, chemical and machinery disciplines, with schools of petroleum engineering, chemistry and chemical engineering, mechanical and electronic engineering, computer and communication engineering, and economics and management. It offers thirty-seven undergraduate programmes across nine disciplinary fields including engineering, science, management, arts, education and medicine, and enrolls over eleven thousand full-time students. As a young public university with deep ties to the energy industry, it emphasises applied training closely aligned with the petroleum, petrochemical and equipment sectors.

🌆 About Dongying

Dongying is a prefecture-level city on the northern coast of Shandong Province, at the mouth of the Yellow River where it meets the Bohai Sea. It is best known as the base of the Shengli Oilfield, one of China's largest, and its economy and identity are built around petroleum extraction, refining and petrochemicals. The surrounding Yellow River Delta National Nature Reserve is a vast wetland famed for migratory birds and reed marshes. The climate is temperate and continental with maritime influence, giving warm summers and cold, windy winters. A relatively new and orderly city with wide roads and modern infrastructure, it offers students low living costs, clean air off the sea, and strong links to the oil and energy industries.
