📖 About the university

Yew Chung College of Early Childhood Education (YCCECE) is Hong Kong's first and only specialist higher education institution dedicated solely to early childhood education, established in 2018 by the Yew Chung Education Foundation, an organisation with roots stretching back some ninety years to among the earliest kindergartens in Hong Kong. Its immediate predecessor, Yew Chung Community College, was founded in 2008 in response to a government initiative to expand self-financed post-secondary education, and in 2014 it became the first private institution in Hong Kong to offer formal teacher training specifically in early childhood education. The college was upgraded to its present degree-granting status in 2018 with the launch of its Bachelor of Education programme, marking Hong Kong's first locally accredited undergraduate degree focused exclusively on the early years. YCCECE also offers a Postgraduate Diploma in Education and continuing professional development courses, drawing on Yew Chung's decades of pioneering work in play-based and child-centred pedagogy dating to the 1970s. Its programmes emphasise practical classroom placement alongside academic study, preparing graduates for registration as kindergarten and childcare professionals recognised by the Hong Kong Education Bureau. The college is best suited to students committed specifically to a career in early childhood education and care, within a small, mission-focused institution rather than a broad multi-disciplinary university.

🌆 About Hong Kong

Hong Kong is a Special Administrative Region on the southern coast of China and one of the world's leading financial, trading, and logistics hubs, where Cantonese Chinese culture blends seamlessly with a British-influenced international outlook. Built around one of the finest deep-water harbours in the world, the territory packs a dramatic skyline of skyscrapers against steep green mountains and outlying islands, with Victoria Harbour at its heart. Its climate is humid subtropical, bringing hot, humid summers with occasional typhoons and mild, dry winters. English and Chinese are both official languages, and the city is famous for its efficient MTR metro, double-decker trams and buses, and Hong Kong International Airport, one of the busiest in the world. Everyday life mixes Michelin-starred dining and dim sum teahouses with street markets, temples, hiking trails, and beaches, all within easy reach. For an international student, Hong Kong offers a concentration of world-ranked universities, a genuinely global environment, and easy travel across Asia, though living costs and rents are among the highest in the region.
