Northwestern Polytechnical University (NWPU) is a public research university in Xi'an, the capital of Shaanxi province, founded in 1938, and it is one of the few universities in China with combined strength in aeronautics, astronautics, and marine engineering. It is included in Project 985, Project 211, and the Double First-Class initiative, and it is counted among the group of universities historically dedicated to national defence science and technology. NWPU is especially renowned for aeronautics, astronautics, marine science and technology, materials science, and mechanical engineering, and it has contributed to many of China's aviation, spaceflight, and underwater technology programs.
