📖 About the university

Jilin Police College is the only public-security higher-education institution in Jilin province, a full-time undergraduate college in the Jingyue Economic Development Zone of Changchun that reports to the Jilin Provincial Public Security Department. It was created on 14 October 1949 as the Jilin Provincial Public Security Cadre School, established at Babailong in Jilin City on the site of the former Manchukuo teacher-training school. The school moved to Changchun in 1955 and was renamed the Jilin Provincial Public Security School, was absorbed in 1957 into the Jilin Provincial Administrative Cadre School on the grounds of the former Manchukuo Imperial Palace, and in 1959 part of it was separated out as the Jilin Provincial Political and Legal Cadre School, which was abolished in 1968 and restored in 1973. A police secondary-vocational stream started in 1978 was made independent in 1980 as the Jilin Provincial People's Police School, the cadre school was raised to junior-college level as Jilin Public Security College in 1985 and renamed Jilin Public Security Higher Vocational College in 1993, the campus moved to the Jingyue development zone in October 2001, and in 2010 the institution was upgraded to undergraduate status as Jilin Police College. The present campus at 1399 Boshuo Road covers about 630.4 mu, and teaching is organised in nine departments — criminal investigation, public security administration, criminal forensic technology, traffic management, law, information engineering, Chinese and foreign languages, economics and management, and arts — supported by teaching units for general basic courses, police physical training and social sciences. Its identity is built around applied police work, so investigative practice, forensic laboratory work, traffic enforcement and police information technology run through the curriculum, and its motto is to serve the country and honour the police, to examine oneself and cultivate one's character. As a Chinese public-security college its intake comes through the national police recruitment examinations and teaching is in Chinese, so it is not an admissions route for international degree students, but it is a useful reference point for anyone studying policing and criminal justice in northeast China.
