📖 About the university
Macao University of Tourism (UTM) is a public university in Macau dedicated to tourism, hospitality, and service-industry education, tracing its roots to the Tourism and Hotel School founded in 1982 and formally established as the Institute for Tourism Studies in 1995 before being renamed Macao University of Tourism on 1 April 2024. It operates under the supervision of the Macau Special Administrative Region government and has been led by the same president since 2001, reflecting more than two decades of institutional continuity. The university occupies two campuses: the main Mong-Há site, built inside a historic fort and home to a dedicated educational hotel and training restaurant, and a second campus on Taipa island. It offers bachelor's degrees and professional training across areas such as culinary arts management, hotel management, tourism business management, heritage management, tourism event management, and tourism retail and marketing, often in partnership with internationally recognised institutions. As a member of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao University Alliance, UTM positions itself as a leading Asian centre for applied, industry-connected tourism education, drawing on Macau's own standing as a UNESCO World Heritage city and a global gaming and hospitality hub. It is best suited to students seeking hands-on, practice-based training for careers in hotels, restaurants, event management, and heritage tourism.

🌆 About Macau
Macau is a Special Administrative Region on the western side of the Pearl River estuary, a former Portuguese enclave that returned to China in 1999 and is today the only place in the country where casino gaming is legal. Compact and densely populated, it is famous for a UNESCO-listed historic centre where baroque churches, cobbled squares, and Chinese temples stand side by side, most iconically the Ruins of St. Paul's. The territory has a humid subtropical climate with hot, humid summers and mild winters, and Cantonese, Portuguese, and increasingly English and Mandarin are all in use. Its economy, built on tourism and the integrated resorts of the Cotai Strip, gives it one of the highest per-capita incomes in the world and funds generous public services and student scholarships. Macau is linked to Hong Kong and Zhuhai by the record-breaking Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macau Bridge and has its own international airport on Taipa island. For an international student, Macau offers a uniquely East-meets-West Sino-Portuguese culture, small class sizes, strong tourism and hospitality programmes, and a safe, walkable environment.
