📖 About the university

Qinghai Institute of Technology is a public undergraduate university in Chengbei District of Xining, the capital of Qinghai province on the north-eastern Tibetan Plateau. It grew out of a long provincial effort to found a second comprehensive university in Qinghai: preparation for Xining University began in 2019, the project in preparation was renamed Qinghai University of Technology in August 2023, and the Ministry of Education formally approved the institution on 30 May 2024. It admitted its first undergraduate cohort in the same year, making it one of the newest universities in western China. The campus covers 1,641.48 mu, roughly 109 hectares, and the university is organised into four colleges and one centre, with four provincial key disciplines and four professional master's degree authorisation points. Its initial 13 undergraduate programmes span three disciplinary categories: the College of Ecology and Environmental Science offers atmospheric science, environmental science and environmental ecology engineering; the College of Computer and Information Science offers computer science and technology, information engineering, automation and digital economy; the College of Engineering offers materials science and engineering, new energy science and engineering, civil, hydraulic and transport engineering, and remote sensing science and technology; and the Business School offers economics and financial technology. The subject mix is deliberately built around Qinghai's own priorities: plateau ecology, salt-lake and new-energy resources, and climate science.
