📖 About the university

Guangzhou University of Software is a private undergraduate institution in Taiping town of Conghua district, in the green northern outskirts of Guangzhou, and one of the few Chinese universities organised entirely around software and the digital economy. It was created in 2002 as the Huaruan Software College of Guangzhou University through a partnership between Guangzhou University and a software investment company; it became an independent college with bachelor-level teaching in 2006, obtained degree-awarding rights in 2012, and on 18 December 2020 the Ministry of Education approved its conversion into a free-standing private university under its present name. Nine schools cover software and artificial intelligence, cyberspace security, electronic information and control engineering, digital media, creative design, digital economy and management, foreign languages, Marxism and general education, offering 36 bachelor programmes; software engineering, Internet-of-Things engineering and logistics management are provincial first-class programmes. A second campus in Shuangshui town of Xinhui district, Jiangmen, opened in September 2025. The identity is deliberately narrow and vocationally sharp — programmers, network-security specialists, digital designers — feeding the IT industry of the Greater Bay Area. Teaching is in Chinese and enrolment is domestic.

🌆 About Guangzhou

Guangzhou is the capital of Guangdong province and a historic trading port on the Pearl River, long serving as China's gateway to the world. With a metropolitan population of around 19 million, it is one of the country's largest and most commercially dynamic cities, home to a substantial international community. The climate is humid subtropical, bringing long, hot, humid summers and short, mild winters with little cold. Landmarks range from the soaring Canton Tower to the intricate Chen Clan Ancestral Hall, the colonial-era Shamian Island, and Yuexiu Park with its Five Rams statue. Guangzhou is the heartland of Cantonese cuisine, celebrated for delicate dim sum, wonton noodles, roast goose, and tea culture. An enormous metro system, Baiyun International Airport, and high-speed rail make it a major hub linking Hong Kong, Shenzhen, and the whole Pearl River Delta. For an international student, Guangzhou offers a cosmopolitan, business-oriented environment, warm weather, excellent food, and one of the largest foreign populations in China.
