📖 About the university
Lanzhou Resources and Environment Voc-Tech University is a public vocational university in Chengguan district of Lanzhou, the capital of Gansu, and one of the first batch of undergraduate-level vocational universities created in China. Its history reaches back to 1951, when the People's Liberation Army set up a meteorology training unit of the Northwest Military Region in Gansu; after several reorganisations this became the Lanzhou Meteorology School, which in 2004 merged with the Gansu Industry Staff University to form Lanzhou Resources and Environment Vocational and Technical College. In 2021 the provincial water conservancy and hydropower school, founded in 1956, was folded in, and in May of that year the Ministry of Education approved the college's merger with the Changqing College of Lanzhou University of Finance and Economics to establish the present undergraduate vocational university. The institution is jointly built by the Gansu provincial government and the national Ministry of Emergency Management — the first vocational university in the country run under such a province-ministry arrangement — and it organises 14 specialty clusters with 27 vocational bachelor programmes alongside associate-degree tracks. Its oldest and strongest fields mirror its origins: applied meteorology and metal precision forming are recognised as high-level programmes by the education and finance ministries, and mining, safety and water-resources courses serve the resource industries of northwest China. Teaching is in Chinese and the intake is domestic.

🌆 About Lanzhou
Lanzhou is the capital of Gansu province and a historic city on the ancient Silk Road, stretched narrowly along the banks of the Yellow River. With a metropolitan population of around four million, it is northwest China's key transport and industrial gateway toward Central Asia. The climate is cold semi-arid, with warm, dry summers and cold, dry winters and relatively little rainfall. Landmarks include the Yellow River waterfront, the iron Zhongshan Bridge, White Pagoda Mountain overlooking the city, and the traditional waterwheel park. Lanzhou is nationally famous for its hand-pulled beef noodles, and its sizeable Hui Muslim community means halal food and mosques are easy to find. A new metro line, Zhongchuan International Airport, and high-speed rail connect it toward Xi'an, Xining, and Urumqi. For an international student, and especially a Muslim one, Lanzhou offers low living costs, a welcoming halal food culture, and a strong sense of Silk Road history.
