Before the Republican era, the Yuci area had no Islamic organisation or mosque. In 1932, Yang Hong'en, a staff member from Tianjin's Great Mosque, arrived in Yuci and founded this mosque, whose early members were largely migrants from Hebei and other provinces. It follows the traditional Chinese courtyard architecture typical of the Jinzhong region, with the main hall on the eastern side and a south-facing gate onto the street, the characters '清真寺' written right to left on the gate roof beneath a crescent-and-star symbol. The south wing was damaged by fire in the 1980s and later repaired; when Yanghao and Zhuanyao streets underwent urban renewal in 2014, plans were made for a new mosque building in the Zhuanyao Street area exceeding 2,000 square metres.

Open for the five daily prayers and Friday Jumu'ah; it also houses the Yuci District Islamic Association. Modest dress is expected of visitors.

🚇 How to reach the mosque
Jinzhong city bus routes stop near the Beiguan area of Yuci District.
There is no Arab quarter in Jinzhong; Hui Muslims head directly to the mosque for Friday prayers.
The mosque sits just east of the Jinzhong municipal government building, a few minutes' walk from the city centre.
