📜 About & history
Xiaotaoyuan Mosque, also called the Shanghai West Mosque, is the largest and most important mosque in Shanghai. First built in 1917 by Jin Ziyun of the Shanghai Islamic Board, it was rebuilt on its present site in 1925 in a West Asian Islamic style crowned with four domes. In the 1920s-40s it received Muslims from across China setting out for the Hajj to Mecca. Listed as protected heritage architecture in 1994, it is home to the Shanghai Islamic Association and the city's mosque management committee.
🕌 Prayer & visiting
Open daily (roughly 4:00-19:00) for the five daily prayers, with the main Friday Jumu'ah gathering around midday; ablution facilities on site. As Shanghai's central mosque it is welcoming; visitors should dress modestly and respect prayer times.

- Line 8 Laoximen （老西门） Exit 7
- Line 10 Laoximen （老西门） Exit 7
Many buses (e.g. 11, 24, 66, 926, 930, 932) stop at the 'Xiaotaoyuan Qingzhensi' stop.
Central and close to major tourist zones; from People's Square / Nanjing Road it is about 10-15 minutes by taxi, or one to two metro stops to Laoximen.
In the Old City just south of People's Square. Take Metro Line 8 or Line 10 to Laoximen Station (Exit 7) and walk east along Fuxing East Road, about 800 m.
