Sajinqiao West Mosque

洒金桥清真西寺
📍 Xi'an · Lianhu District 🏛️ 1926 (Republic of China era)

📜 About & history

The site was originally the Buddhist 'Haihui Nunnery', converted in 1906 (Guangxu 32) into a Muslim national primary school. Following a doctrinal split, in 1926 (Republic year 15) congregants who had left the Sajinqiao North Mosque pooled 2,000 silver dollars to buy the land and rebuild it as a mosque. General Ma Hongkui, then passing through Shaanxi, inscribed the four-character plaque 'Qingzhen Xisi' (Pure and True West Mosque). It follows the Ikhwan ('New Teaching') tradition, distinct from the older Gedimu mosques nearby.
