Liuzhou Mosque

柳州清真寺
📍 Liuzhou · Chengzhong District 🏛️ Early Kangxi era (c. 1662–1672), Qing dynasty

📜 About & history

Liuzhou Mosque was founded in the early Kangxi years of the Qing dynasty, proposed and funded by Ma Xiong, then a Guangxi military commander, initially as a place of worship for Hui Muslim soldiers. It was destroyed by fire in 1680 and rebuilt in 1695, then repaired during the Daoguang and Xianfeng reigns, damaged again in 1857 and reconstructed in 1878 and 1923. The complex preserves Qing-dynasty plaques and seven old steles, including three wood-carved coloured Quranic inscriptions. It is a listed cultural relic protection unit in Chengzhong District and remains Liuzhou's principal mosque.
