The Fengshu Ancient Mosque lies in Fengshu Uyghur and Hui Township of Taoyuan County, often described as the 'second home' of China's Uyghur people. Uyghur and Hui families settled here at the start of the Ming Hongwu era, bringing Islam to the region. The mosque is crowned with a domed roof bearing a crescent moon. Hala Bashi (哈勒·八十), the ancestor of the local Uyghur clan whose descendants include the historian Jian Bozan, is buried in the courtyard of the ancient mosque.
