📜 About & history

Islam reached Wuwei (Liangzhou) on the Hexi Corridor as early as the Tang dynasty through Arab and Persian merchants trading in the town. The first post-Qing mosque, nicknamed 「Wuzhuanqi」, was raised in 1920 but collapsed in a 1927 earthquake; rebuilt in 1928, it was expanded into the grand Liangzhou Great Mosque in 1942. That earlier great hall, with four soaring central pillars, could hold over 2,000 worshippers. After reopening in 1981, the present prayer hall of about 535 square metres was completed on 5 September 1986 and seats around 1,000 worshippers.
