Zhoushan
Zhoushan is an archipelago city off the coast of Zhejiang, made up of more than a thousand islands at the mouth of Hangzhou Bay, and China's only prefecture-level city composed almost entirely of islands. It sits beside one of the world's richest fishing grounds and is China's largest seafood-producing base, its markets famed for hairtail, yellow croaker and crab. Mount Putuo, one of the Four Sacred Buddhist Mountains, is a major pilgrimage site devoted to the bodhisattva Guanyin and draws visitors from across Asia. The beaches of Zhujiajian and the remote Shengsi Islands are popular summer escapes. Zhoushan also hosts a huge deep-water port and petrochemical complex, linked to Ningbo by a chain of sea-crossing bridges.
