Zhangjiajie is a city in northwestern Hunan renowned for the towering sandstone pillars of its national forest park, whose otherworldly peaks inspired the floating mountains of the film Avatar. It has a humid subtropical mountain climate and a strong Tujia ethnic culture. An international airport and high-speed rail serve the city.
