Yixing is a county-level city administered by Wuxi on the shore of Lake Tai in southern Jiangsu, world-renowned as the 'Pottery Capital' of China. For centuries its Dingshu district has crafted the prized zisha (purple-clay) teapots beloved by tea connoisseurs, a tradition dating back to the Ming dynasty. The surrounding hills hold spectacular limestone caves and a vast 'bamboo sea', and the area produces fine Yangxian green tea.
