Taizhou is a coastal prefecture-level city on the East China Sea in eastern Zhejiang, known for its rugged mountains, offshore islands and vibrant private economy. Mount Tiantai, home to the ancient Guoqing Temple, is a cradle of the Tiantai school of Buddhism and Japanese Tendai Buddhism. The historic town of Linhai preserves a Ming-dynasty city wall often called a 'Jiangnan Great Wall.' The city is a national manufacturing hub for pharmaceuticals, pumps and motorcycles. Sanmen Bay is famed for its prized blue crabs and other seafood.
