Ma'anshan
Ma'anshan lies in eastern Anhui on the south bank of the Yangtze, just across the provincial border from Nanjing, and is one of China's classic steel towns, home to the giant Magang iron and steel works. Its riverside identity is deeply tied to the great Tang poet Li Bai, who loved this stretch of the Yangtze; legend says he drowned here reaching for the moon's reflection at Caishiji cliff, where the Taibai Tower and his tomb now stand. The scenic Caishiji promontory, with pavilions above the river, remains the city's cultural heart and hosts an annual poetry festival. Yushan Lake anchors a green, well-planned city center. High-speed rail places Ma'anshan under twenty minutes from Nanjing.
