Huangshi

Huangshi is an old industrial and mining city on the south bank of the Yangtze in southeastern Hubei, one of the cradles of modern Chinese heavy industry. Mining here dates back millennia, evidenced by the Tonglushan ancient copper mine, a remarkable Bronze Age archaeological site. The nearby Daye iron mine features a vast man-made open pit once feeding the Hanyang ironworks. The city long anchored China's iron, steel and cement production. It is now transforming toward tourism and new manufacturing while preserving its industrial heritage.
