In Shaanxi province

Hancheng is a county-level city administered by Weinan in eastern Shaanxi, on the west bank of the Yellow River. It is revered as the hometown of Sima Qian, the great Han-dynasty historian who wrote the Records of the Grand Historian, and his temple and tomb crown a hill above town. Hancheng preserves one of the best-kept old towns in Shaanxi, including the remarkable Ming-Qing Dangjia Village with its courtyard homes, and a fine Confucius temple. For an international student, Hancheng offers profound literary and historical heritage, well-preserved traditional architecture and Yellow River scenery.
