Dujiangyan is a county-level city administered by Chengdu, home to the world's oldest still-functioning irrigation system, built around 256 BC by the engineer Li Bing to tame the Min River. This UNESCO World Heritage marvel, together with the neighbouring Taoist holy mountain of Qingcheng, forms a joint heritage site and remains an engineering wonder. The city is also a gateway to panda conservation bases.
