A major Tibetan Buddhist temple built in 1755 under the Qianlong Emperor just north of the Chengde Mountain Resort, one of the "Eight Outer Temples" and home to a towering wooden statue of the thousand-armed Guanyin, hence its nickname "the Big Buddha Temple."
