About 30 km east of central Xining. Airport bus to the city ~40 min (~CNY 21); taxi ~CNY 80-100. A high-speed rail station is near the airport. No city metro.

Gateway to Qinghai on the Tibetan Plateau. Xining has a large Hui Muslim community and the famous Dongguan Grand Mosque; halal food is widespread and prayer rooms available. Limited international flights.
